The University of Tulsa Division of Continuing Education Presents
Learn to throw on the potter’s wheel and create your own coffee mugs, bowls, plates, and vases. Both beginning and advanced students will tap into their creativity, and take part in an activity that is centering and relaxing. The instructor will do demonstrations each class period, and each student will receive individual attention as needed. We will learn how to work with clay, how to prepare the class for the wheel, and how to make basic forms. By the end of the class, beginners will have made mugs, bowls, and plates, and the more advanced students will have explored other forms, such as pitchers and teapots. We will work with high-fire stoneware clay and glazes, and finish your projects with firings in a gas kiln.
Cathryn Thomas received her MFA with a focus in ceramics, both sculptural and functional, from The University of Tulsa. She has lived in Tulsa for over 30 years, working as a performing musician, teacher, and artist. She is currently an adjunct instructor of art at Tulsa Community College.
