Dr. Alicia Odewale, Assistant Professor in TU’s Department of Anthropology, and Dr. Karla Slocum, Professor at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, co-created a comprehensive online resource guide called the #TulsaSyllabus that helps readers to gain a deeper understanding of the context of race in Tulsa with the story of Greenwood as its focal point. Professor Odewale says, “this resource provides an important backdrop on race relations in Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma right as Tulsa is the subject of nationwide attention and the center of discussions for both acts of racial violence and spaces of Black wealth and freedom.” The #TulsaSyllabus project began out of preparation for a new course that Professor Odewale will begin teaching next year titled, "The Archaeology of Black Heritage in Oklahoma.” The #TulsaSyllabus includes a collection of resources that cover the rise, destruction, rebuilding, urban “renewal” and renaissance of Greenwood and much more.
