About The TU Mentoring Program

The utulsa connect platform is a unique opportunity for you to form meaningful relationships with alumni, faculty/staff, parents and friends of TU that will extend beyond campus walls. As a participant, you have the ability to request a mentor to assist you with career advice, professional development, and networking opportunities. While mentors and mentees are encouraged to connect on a regular basis (i.e. once a month phone call, in-person/virtual meeting, or email conversation), the frequency and form of communication are things you both can determine.

As a student, you must initiate the first contact with a potential mentor! Mentors are ready and willing to support TU students, but students must send the first message.

How can I benefit from utulsa connect?

1.  Browse profiles within the Directory section and set-up career conversations with
a person of interest to you
2.  Ask career-related questions from one of your matched mentors
3.  Join a group to access select resources, members, and much more!

What is expected of me?

Mentees are responsible for setting expectations for the meeting by defining the focus of the conversation and coming prepared with a list of questions to ask your mentor during your meeting. A list of sample questions can be found under the Resources section of the Mentee/Mentor Handbook.

Other expectations include:

  • Become knowledgeable about your mentor (look him/her up on LinkedIn, know their background, industry, and company)
  • Know what you would like to learn prior to connecting with him/her
  • Ask thoughtful questions and accept feedback
  • Follow through on mentor suggestions and advice
  • Show professionalism - be on time to all scheduled meetings, respond promptly to your mentor and be respectful of your mentor’s time and generosity
  • Be open to stepping out of your comfort zone
