Tom McIntosh’s (BSBA ’89, MBA ’91) TU experiences can be likened to a game of two halves. A former student-athlete and letter winner in soccer at The University of Tulsa, McIntosh understands the challenges required to perform at the highest level, and what is required to inspire others to do the same. When he committed to TU, he did so for life. “I attended two different universities, actually, prior to attending The University of Tulsa,” said McIntosh. “The University of Tulsa changed my life forever. I think it was the personalized atmosphere that still exists today and the combination of excellence in the classroom and competing at the highest level that transformed my life from the very first day.” McIntosh earned both his degrees from The University of Tulsa - a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing in 1989 and a Master’s in Business Administration in 1991. He used his business acumen to open Mac’s Soccer Shack in 1993 and Mac’s National Soccer School in 1995, which have grown into a Tulsa-based soccer brand. “As the winningest coach in TU soccer history, Tom McIntosh consistently outperforms his job responsibilities by positioning TU Athletics and The University of Tulsa at the forefront of collegiate men’s soccer,” said Athletic Director Rick Dickson. “He has always been a game changer for the university and for the sport.” Since his first season as head coach, McIntosh has built Tulsa Men’s Soccer into a conference powerhouse. He has led his teams to 15 conference championship Finals, including eight tournament and four regular season titles. In addition, the team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament 11 times, including national quarterfinal appearances in 2004 and 2009. With the longest tenure in the history of the TU men’s soccer program, he has an overall record of 276-187-55 and has notched, to date, a conference mark of 114-84-26 as a member of four conferences. For McIntosh, performance off the pitch for his student-athletes is just as important. His emphasis on academic excellence has resulted in 270 players earning conference academic honors over the course of his career: 20 Western Athletic Conference, 29 Missouri Valley Conference, 111 Conference USA, and 110 The American. Thirty-six student-athletes have earned Academic All-District accolades, and 10 have received Academic All-America recognition. On three different occasions his teams have won the award for the highest Team GPA in the league while also winning the Regular Season and Conference Tournament titles. “I am grateful to have had so many players and coaches pursue winning and academic excellence with all their heart which has enabled all of us to grow. When I see former players and coaches achieve amazing things after graduation and their time at Tulsa, I am humbled to have been a small part of their journey and success.” Coach McIntosh exhibits the highest level of school pride, representing The University of Tulsa on many national scenes, including having served 8 years as the chairman for NCAA Regional Advisory Committee which helps select teams for the NCAA Tournament and a member of the NCAA National Committee which oversees all functions of the NCAA Tournament. He is a longstanding member of the Golden Hurricane Champions Fund, consistently supporting his employer and TU students. TU is a family affair for all the McIntosh’s: wife, Denise (BSBA ’90, MS ’22); son, Ian; and daughter Avery. Ian joined the Golden Hurricane men’s soccer squad this fall and enrolled in the Collins College of Business, while Avery, is a junior at Bishop Kelley High School. Tom’s family, parents, assistant coaches, among others surprised him earlier this year where he learned he had been named 2022 Mr. Homecoming. “We held a little celebration last spring, and I had no idea,” said McIntosh. “Being named Mr. Homecoming is honestly a very kind honor to be given from this university, and one that I wouldn’t receive if it wasn’t for my family, the players, coaches and so many wonderful athletic and non-athletic staff and faculty that have been here with me over the years.” .
