Celebrating The Spirit of TU

Even during the Great Depression, TU manages to maintain high spirits... three major buildings dedicated: McFarlin Library, Phillips Hall and Tyrrell Hall... 14,500 seat Skelly Stadium completed... TU Symphony Orchestra evolves into the Tulsa Philharmonic... Hurricane Club organized... School of Business Administration established... TU accredited by Association of American Universities... "Windbags" pep organization forms... Clarence I. Pontius becomes TU's 10th president (1935-1958)... Pi Kappa Alpha, first national fraternity to be chartered on campus... "Hurricane Spirit," chosen by a campus wide contest as the official fight song (words and music by student Ben G. Henneke, who later becomes president of TU).
